K.A.R.A.T. School
of Learning
We like to believe that inside every student resides an innate desire to understand this wonderfully beautiful, yet complicated, world. We live in an age of many questions in need of answers. For generations, these problems have been solved in the traditional classroom settings. Every one of us learns differently, however, and research suggests the traditional approach to education -- though adequate for some pupils -- leaves many others feeling confused, frustrated, and even rejected. Many public school classrooms are overcrowded, thus forcing struggling students to the sidelines. Such situations tend to have profoundly negative effects on a troubled student's academic performance. Social interactions with peers often suffer. Many bright and inquisitive pupils have dropped out --quitting on education the way education quit on them. These are bright young people eager to learn, but they are not succeeding in the one size fits all mentality that persists in a traditional education. Non-traditional students need the proper environment, instructors, and curriculum, which will allow them to succeed as students and adults.
The K.A.R.A.T.® School of Learning exists to uplift and educate non-traditional students. We pride ourselves on sharing the precious gift of knowledge with those that have been marginalized and overlooked by the traditional school system and educators. Our instructors possess extraordinary patience, firm guidance, and empathetic awareness, all the necessary traits needed to engage students with such needs. K.A.R.A.T.® uses both classroom instruction and on-site experiential lessons to educate. For example: sitting through a lecture on the Battle of Gettysburg is a tedious experience for non-traditional students, so at K.A.R.A.T.®, a field experience to the actual fields of Gettysburg is the best way. While there, the students will gain a different perspective on the battle. They are instantly immersed in their surroundings as they realize they could be standing in the same spot as Gen. Robert E. Lee. Curiosity arises in the student, and curiosity is the spark that ignites learning. We believe that if we get students interested in their education, they will get more out of their education. The students may also learn about Civil War era medicine, which would expose them to a science. Artillery formulas and ballistics would teach important lessons in algebra and geometry. By integrating math, science, English and other subject’s objectives into one lesson, we teach the brain in the manner it was designed to learn: not one thing at a time, but rather as a whole, working the whole brain to increase knowledge retention and recall. Our method of community-based, interest-driven, hands- on teaching shows our students the relevance between what they are learning and how it affects their lifes. We strive to stir the curious minds of our pupils, in order to accomplish our goal of “real life lessons, for real world living.”
We are K.A.R.A.T.®: Education’s Gold Standard.
